Objective:To evaluate the safety of intravenous (IV) azithromycin for the treatment of recurrent severe chlamydial infections.
Materials and methods:Two hundred patients were treated with intravenous (IV) azithromycin (100 mg every other day), and five patients were treated with oral therapy. The patients were followed for one week and three months.
Results:Two hundred patients were involved in the study. Out of them, 50 patients (37.7%) were successfully treated with IV azithromycin.
Conclusion:IV azithromycin is effective and effective in the treatment of chlamydial infections in patients with severe chlamydia and gonorrhea. It is safe and effective in patients with recurrent severe chlamydial infections.

Group A showed a better improvement in the infection rate and an increased risk of bacterial resistance (90% vs. 56.8%). The rate of bacterial resistance was significantly higher in group B compared with the other two groups. The rate of resistance was significantly higher in the group with oral azithromycin compared with the other two groups (p=0.0004).
